Chinese New Year or Spring Festival is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It is sometimes called the "Lunar New Year" by English speakers. The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first month (Chinese: 正月; pinyin: zhēng yuè) in the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th; this day is called Lantern Festival. Chinese New Year's Eve is known as chú xī. It literally means "Year-pass Eve".
Chinese New Year is the longest and most important festivity in the Lunar Calendar. The origin of Chinese New Year is itself centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. Ancient Chinese New Year is a reflection on how the people behaved and what they believed in the most.
Chinese New Year is celebrated in countries and territories with significant Han Chinese populations, such as Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors, as well as cultures with whom the Chinese have had extensive interaction. These include Koreans (Seollal), Tibetans and Bhutanese (Losar), Mongolians (Tsagaan Sar), Vietnamese (Tết), and formerly the Japanese before 1873 (Oshogatsu).
In countries such as Australia, Canada and the United States, although Chinese New Year is not an official holiday, many ethnic Chinese hold large celebrations and Australia Post, Canada Post, and the US Postal Service issue New Year's themed stamps.
Within China, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese new year vary widely. People will pour out their money to buy presents, decoration, material, food, and clothing. It is also the tradition that every family thoroughly cleans the house to sweep away any ill-fortune in hopes to make way for good incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red colour paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of “happiness”, “wealth”, and “longevity”. On the Eve of Chinese New Year, supper is a feast with families. Food will include such items as pigs, ducks, chicken and sweet delicacies. The family will end the night with firecrackers. Early the next morning, children will greet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year, and receive money in red paper envelopes. The Chinese New Year tradition is a great way to reconcile forgetting all grudges, and sincerely wish peace and happiness for everyone.

1st IPOH CHARITY RIDE
It is the 1st charity ride co-organized by a group of kind hearted and dedicated Kledang Cyclists Ipoh and Leo Club of Sam Tet. The aim of it is to serve the community, to promote the importance of going green and keeping our environment clean .Our main focus is to bring happiness to old folks home and orphanage . We Ride , We Serve is our slogan. Around 40 professional cyclists and 15 Leos were present that day. We were very honour to have RCC Lion Mary Goh, District Leo Cabinet President, Leo Eliza Chia as well as representatives from Leo Club of Ipoh Unity for joining this meaningful project with us. On that day morning, we all gathered at the starting point (Pertubuhan Meningkat Akhlak Chi Pee Seah) and had a short briefing by Vice Organizing Chairperson, Leo Henry Lam. Our first pit stop for this charity project was Yayasan Latihan Insan Istimewa Ipoh. All cyclists started their journey happily. We spent around half an hour there. We distributed some mandarin oranges, angpau as well as water containers to them. Although this was the first charity project carried out by Kledang Cyclists, they managed to do their best and cooperate with Leo Club of Sam Tet. We ended our visit there by donating a total cash of RM1000 to the Home and successfully brought the happiness to them.
Next, we proceed to the Pusat Jagaan Our Ideal Home that is located in Kampung Simee. The journey from our first pit stop to there was 8m. We had to thanks a lot for the protection and helping of the Superbikes through all the journey. As like just now, we had a chance to distribute some chinese new year foods and the most special was the old folks there welcomed us happily by singing a Christian song for us. We also took the chance to chat with them and wished eveyone with Happy Chinese New Year.
The third pit stop was The Home For The Aged Simee which just located nearby the second pit stop.It is a Non-Profit Organization serving the elder generation or our society. The Home is opened to all poor, homeless and abandoned elderly folks of all races and religion. We decided to spend around 2 hours there as at present 53 residents staying there. We gave angpau, mandarin oranges and some food to them. Although it was just a little gift from us, the old folks felt happy because we celebrated Chinese New Year with them this year. The cyclists had showed their caring to the old folks well by chatting and entertaining them.
After travelled along 15km journey, we had a rest by having our lunch at HD World near Jusco. We had the best lunch buffet there.(everything is the best when we are hungry. Hahahahah)
After that, we proceed to the Hannah Home. This was the last pit stop before we back to the starting point. There was around 30 kids there. Sadly, we found that there was an orphans which just 3 years old. We distributed all the gifts to them and took a few of group photo.Alfred, organizing chairperson from Kledang Cyclists had led the cyclists well by having some fun with the orphans.
Finally, it came to the end after travelled along 20km for this charity project. We donated a total cash of RM3500 to Pertubuhan Meningkat Akhlak Chi Pee Seah as well as had a memorable and happy ending.

Visit and Donation of RM1500 to Joyful Home & Vision Home
The visit was co-organized by Leo Club of Sam Tet and Kledang Cyclists Group, Ipoh. First, we proceed to Vision Home as our first destination. 5 Leos from Leo Club of Sam Tet that led by Leo President Daniel Kok and accompanied by RCC Lion Mary Goh as well as representatives from Kledang Cyclists Group were present. We gave the water containers to each orphans there as a gift of Chinese New Year. All of these are greatly sponsored by a kind-hearted company and prepared by the Kledang Cyclists. Besides, each orphans also had a chance to get angpau and thus, we successfully brought the happiness to them. Before we left, we donated RM500 to Vision Home for their expenses in life.
After that, we had another visit to Joyful Home. As like the situation just now, each orphans got an angpau and a free water container. In addition, Leo Club of Sam Tet and Kledang Cyclists also prepared a lot of new stationary for the orphans in studies. They thanked us very much and wished Happy Chinese New Year to us. Family Food Fair Day on 25.4.2010
The Home For The Aged (CWS) Simee is a Non-Profit Organization serving the elder generation of our society. It is run by the Caring Ministry of the Catholic Welfare Services Malaysia, with support from the Bishop of Penang.
The Home is open to all poor, homeless and abandoned elderly folks of all races and religion. All residents in the Home stay free of charge. The Home is maintained and run on the charity of the community. At present 53 residents staying there are provided with a bed, daily meals and recreational facilities like TV in a comfortable sitting room, medical attention and hospital referrals when needed. They are all taken care of by dedicated and full-time staff, with regular visits by the Honorary Medical Consultant.
The Home and the services it provides require money to run. Donors have always been generous, but sometimes the Home runs short of funds. Occasionally, they organize activities like Family Day Food Fair to raise additional funds. The previous Food Fairs (the last was held in 2008) have always been well supported by their friends and associates and they hope this Food Fair will be as successful. There will be many different kinds of foods and other items for sale, all donated by the supporters who set up the stalls.
Family Day Food Fair will be opened by the Home’s Patron Yang Bahagia Dato Chang Ko Youn at 9am. Tax exempt receipts will be issued for donations of RM100 and above. Donations of every RM500 will be given 3 complimentary books of coupons. Sale of food and other items will be by coupons only. The coupons are priced at RM10 per book.
The Home is one of the stopovers of our mega project “1st IPOH CHARITY RIDE”. If you are interested to support them by donating in cash or buying the coupons, please kindly contact us for more details.

All mountain and road bike cyclists are welcomed .We will be cycling around Ipoh to the selected few old folks home and orphanage . We will pay them a visit and we will also contribute some mandarin oranges , rice , Milo, Nescafe and so on to them . We wanted to bring happiness to them during this Chinese New Year season .Our slogan : We Ride , We Serve.

On the 7th of February the route has been shown at the map below. We'll gather at the starting point at 7.30 am and will start our journey at 8 am sharp. The journey will be about 18 km.
What we need ?
We need you and your bike to be on that meaningful day . We need your contribution no matter in terms of goods or cash .

Decoration of Christmas Tree project organized by Leo Club of La Salle Klang
On 23rd December 2009, Leos from Leo Club of Sam Tet had attended a Christmas Tree Decoration project organized by Leo Club of La Salle Klang. They were given a task to complete that is decorated the Christmas tree with cans and bottles. All the Leos agreed to take up that challenge as it was also a good way to promote the concept of going green. Our vice president, Leo Chea Kiat Heong lead a team and did their best in this event. (Teammate:Leo Boo Jun Hong & Leo Pou Jun Siang)

Leo Cabinet Installation
On 19th December 2009, Leos from Leo Club of Sam Tet had attended the Leo Cabinet Installation held at Heritage Hotel, Ipoh. The newly formed Leo Cabinet marked another milestone of success in our district as all the cabinet officers were installed. The theme for this event is quite special, that is, "SHANGHAI NITE".
The installation started at 8.00p.m after the registration. There was a special guest from Phillipines, Leo Daryl Patrick Ruiz who came all the way from Manila to attend this meaningful installation. After the arrival of Lions, Lioness and Guest of Honour, the meeting was called to order by DC Lion Alan at 8.30p.m. Next was the flag salutation, Leo pledge leaded by Leo Cheng Kok Sheng and the Lion Spirit.
There was a multimedia presentation after the dinner. It was all about the newly formed Leo Cabinet. After the multimedia presentation, Leo Cheng Weng Siong was invited to deliver his speech. Then the installation started. All the Leo Cabinet Officers were installed and they promised to perform their duties with full responsibility. Leo Cabinet President, Leo Eliza Chia was then invited to give her speech.
After the speech from Leo Eliza, our DC Lion Alan was invited to give his speech and express his feeling after all the cabinet officers were installed. Leo Daryl, District 301-A2 Leo Cabinet president was also invited to share the projects and events they done at Manila. Next was the exchange of souvernirs and presentation of momentoes. There was also a best dress competition after that.The meeting was adjourned at 10.30p.m.

Visit to Ipoh Ipoh Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals
ISPCA is a special center to take in abandoned cats and dogs. This visit was aimed to comprehend the life of those abandon animals. 10 Leos from our club were attended this meaningful visit. DC Lion Alan, RCC Lion Mary Goh and MD 301-A2 Leo Cabinet President, Leo Daryl Patrick Ruiz also joined this visit.
First, the worker gave a briefing to us about how they take care of those dogs and cats and they hope to find some warm hearted people to sponsor their daily expenses. There are many abandoned cats and dogs at the center. We also helped them to clean up the compound around the center and painted the door. Besides, we also donated RM150 to them.
