FAREWELL CELEBRATION 2010

Dear Outgoing Board of Directors fiscal year 2009/2010,

The Farewell Celebration for outgoing board of directors 09/10 is coming soon on this saturday. This event is organized annually to celebrate and appreciate the services and contribution of Outgoing BODs to the club throughout the years serving in Leo Club of Sam Tet. It is our pleasure to invite all the outgoing B.O.D. to attend this farewell as we prepared a lot of interesting games and programmes for you all. Without you all, this farewell would not be a success and our club definitely would not have the achievement today. With the effort by the outgoing BODs, our club had a chance to win numerous awards such as Outstanding Club, Top Directors and Top Project during Leo Forum on June. Leo Daniel Kok, Leo Chea Kiat Heong, Leo Tom Chong, Leo Henry Lam, Leo Teh Ren Chet, Leo Lai Tay Loong, Leo Law Zhen Theng, Leo Boo Jun H ong, Leo Fan Sui Wan, Leo Joeger Wong, Leo Ho Yik Hong, Leo Pou Jun Siang & Leo Tan Chin Guan, we really miss you all a lot and hope to see you on this Saturday.

31st Perak Leo Clubs Joint Installation

After a few months of planning and hardwork, all the Leo Clubs Region 4 & 5 successfully organized the 31st Perak Leo Clubs Joint Installation. On the beginning of April, 13 incoming board of directors had been elected to lead the club for fiscal year 2010/2011. But so fast now, they all were installed as the official Board of Directors fiscal year 10/11 in the event of Joint Installation.

On 22 August 2010, 31st Joint Installation were held at the Tower Regency Hotel. The event kicked start at 11am sharp. We were very honour to have the District Governor Hudson Hah as the special guest for this event. As one of the organizing clubs, we fully supported this event by having the attendance of 20 of our club leos. Besides, this was also our pleasure to have our sponsoring Lions Club president, Lion Kannasen as well as School Faculty Advisor, Mr Henry Soon to attend too.

There were several interesting programmes such as the multimedia presentation, the performance by Region 4 Leo Idol Champion Queenie Ooi and so on. The most important part of the event was the installation ceremony that conducted by District Chairperson Alan Thoo.

Help Out in the upcoming Ipoh StarWalk 2010

Ipoh Starwalk ranked tops in the council’s local agenda to make Ipoh a clean, green and developed city. It is a major tourist attraction in the city. Year after year, people come here from all over Malaysia and even Singapore to take part in the event.
Ipoh Starwalk 2010, which will be flagged off from 7am, is jointly organised by Star Publi-cations and the council with the co-operation of the Perak Government, Perak Amateur Athletics Association and Perak Education Department in conjunction with Ipoh city’s 22nd anniversary.

Date : Sunday June 7 2010
Time : 7am-12pm
Venue : Stadium Ipoh
Those who complete the walk within 100 minutes will be eligible for a lucky contest that offers attractive prizes.

It is our pleasure to offer our help in this event. 50 LEOS from our club will be on duty that day and serve to make the event a success. It is the time to show our UNITY and COOPERATION in serving the community. ENSURING that a big event like Ipoh Starwalk runs smoothly is a huge task but we will make it be possible and serve our best.

We are very proud of the achievements of District 308B2 Leo President, Leo Eliza Chia as she contributed restlessly towards the upbringing of the Leo Club of Ipoh Unity, and not forgetting her civic duty that led the club to winning numerous awards!

Leolympics 1st Day : Badminton & Ping Pong

This was the first day of Leolympics 2010. After conducted the opening ceremony to launch the games today, all badminton and ping pong matches were started. The matches were divided into single and doubles. Many Leo Clubs like SMI, Sam Tet, Anderson, SM Poi Lam, Yuk Choy, AMC, SIS, Ipoh Unity were present today. We were so glad to have Vice District Governor Lion Hudson Hah to be our guest of honour today and had a friendly match with leos too.The presence of DC Lion Alan Thoo and RCC Lion Mary Goh made the event more interesting.

Happy Chinese New Year 2010

Chinese New Year or Spring Festival is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It is sometimes called the "Lunar New Year" by English speakers. The festival traditionally begins on the first day of the first month (Chinese: 正月; pinyin: zhēng yuè) in the Chinese calendar and ends on the 15th; this day is called Lantern Festival. Chinese New Year's Eve is known as chú xī. It literally means "Year-pass Eve".


Chinese New Year is the longest and most important festivity in the Lunar Calendar. The origin of Chinese New Year is itself centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. Ancient Chinese New Year is a reflection on how the people behaved and what they believed in the most.

Chinese New Year is celebrated in countries and territories with significant Han Chinese populations, such as Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Taiwan, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors, as well as cultures with whom the Chinese have had extensive interaction. These include Koreans (Seollal), Tibetans and Bhutanese (Losar), Mongolians (Tsagaan Sar), Vietnamese (Tết), and formerly the Japanese before 1873 (Oshogatsu).

In countries such as Australia, Canada and the United States, although Chinese New Year is not an official holiday, many ethnic Chinese hold large celebrations and Australia Post, Canada Post, and the US Postal Service issue New Year's themed stamps.

Within China, regional customs and traditions concerning the celebration of the Chinese new year vary widely. People will pour out their money to buy presents, decoration, material, food, and clothing. It is also the tradition that every family thoroughly cleans the house to sweep away any ill-fortune in hopes to make way for good incoming luck. Windows and doors will be decorated with red colour paper-cuts and couplets with popular themes of “happiness”, “wealth”, and “longevity”. On the Eve of Chinese New Year, supper is a feast with families. Food will include such items as pigs, ducks, chicken and sweet delicacies. The family will end the night with firecrackers. Early the next morning, children will greet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year, and receive money in red paper envelopes. The Chinese New Year tradition is a great way to reconcile forgetting all grudges, and sincerely wish peace and happiness for everyone.

1st IPOH CHARITY RIDE

It is the 1st charity ride co-organized by a group of kind hearted and dedicated Kledang Cyclists Ipoh and Leo Club of Sam Tet. The aim of it is to serve the community, to promote the importance of going green and keeping our environment clean .Our main focus is to bring happiness to old folks home and orphanage . We Ride , We Serve is our slogan. Around 40 professional cyclists and 15 Leos were present that day. We were very honour to have RCC Lion Mary Goh, District Leo Cabinet President, Leo Eliza Chia as well as representatives from Leo Club of Ipoh Unity for joining this meaningful project with us. On that day morning, we all gathered at the starting point (Pertubuhan Meningkat Akhlak Chi Pee Seah) and had a short briefing by Vice Organizing Chairperson, Leo Henry Lam. Our first pit stop for this charity project was Yayasan Latihan Insan Istimewa Ipoh. All cyclists started their journey happily. We spent around half an hour there. We distributed some mandarin oranges, angpau as well as water containers to them. Although this was the first charity project carried out by Kledang Cyclists, they managed to do their best and cooperate with Leo Club of Sam Tet. We ended our visit there by donating a total cash of RM1000 to the Home and successfully brought the happiness to them.

Next, we proceed to the Pusat Jagaan Our Ideal Home that is located in Kampung Simee. The journey from our first pit stop to there was 8m. We had to thanks a lot for the protection and helping of the Superbikes through all the journey. As like just now, we had a chance to distribute some chinese new year foods and the most special was the old folks there welcomed us happily by singing a Christian song for us. We also took the chance to chat with them and  wished eveyone with Happy Chinese New Year.

The third pit stop was The Home For The Aged Simee which just located nearby the second pit stop.It is a Non-Profit Organization serving the elder generation or our society. The Home is opened to all poor, homeless and abandoned elderly folks of all races and religion. We decided to spend around 2 hours there as at present 53 residents staying there. We gave angpau, mandarin oranges and some food to them. Although it was just a little gift from us, the old folks felt happy because we celebrated Chinese New Year with them this year. The cyclists had showed their caring to the old folks well by chatting and entertaining them.

After travelled along 15km journey, we had a rest by having our lunch at HD World near Jusco. We had the best lunch buffet there.(everything is the best when we are hungry. Hahahahah)

After that, we proceed to the Hannah Home. This was the last pit stop before we back to the starting point. There was around 30 kids there. Sadly, we found that there was an orphans which just 3 years old. We distributed all the gifts to them and took a few of group photo.Alfred, organizing chairperson from Kledang Cyclists had led the cyclists well by having some fun with the orphans.

Finally, it came to the end after travelled along 20km for this charity project. We donated a total cash of RM3500 to Pertubuhan Meningkat Akhlak Chi Pee Seah as well as had a memorable and happy ending.
